PROP 82 -- A SIGN OF THINGS TO COME

One might argue that this is just another bill that taxes the super rich in order to benefit poor immigrants. California is more and more becoming a state populated with people that think taxing the super rich will solve their problems; or at least get some of their money. When people have choices, it just doesn't work that way and only creates more problems over time.

I worked for what some might call the rich, and let me just add that bills such as this only provide further incentives for the rich to move their income (“creatively”) or move their legal residence; or retire (my personal favorite). All are easy to do; after all, we are fast becoming a country in which the rule of law, or intellectual ideals mean very little. So maybe we should get what we can while we can from the "man"? You know, just look out for number one. I am so confused! And who is the man anyways?

PROP 82 -- THE BASICS

This bill basically raises the state income taxes for individuals that make more than $400,000 by 1.7 percent, or 20 percent.

Let’s set aside the fairness issue, because I am tired of caring about what is or is not fair, do we really want "more" public preschools in California? I can’t think of too many states that have worse public education!

The California High School Exit Exam, which is required to graduate, only tests 8th grade math and 10th grade English. As I recall, high school includes grades 9, 10, 11, and 12. Now, you would think, given that this exam doesn’t even test high school math, that the pass rate would be relatively high. However, only 63 to 65 percent of the students taking this exam are passing it (as of 2005). This is largely because of the dramatic and horrific impact that illegal immigration has had on our school system in urban locations.

Here is an interesting site.

I have one suggestion for improving our public schools. Stop dialoguing about how bad our politicians are, stop talking about the need to remember one’s heritage, and start teaching math, English, and the sciences. Leave the rest for the blogs!

It seems like there is a story once a week about a "teacher" talking about how California was pilfered from the indigenous people or how Bush sucks. Now the Bush one is true, but is middle school the place to have such political debates when our dropout rates are still so high? How about preschool?

Is this our state's future? To have only one "qualified" teacher per school?

To me PROP 82 is just one more reason why having two sets of illegal immigration rules is a toxin that will continue to promote “larger” government, more taxes, and less self-reliance -- one of the basic ideals of this country that inspires unique individual achievement.
