BLACK MEN, BLACK MASTERS

I knew that African Americans purchased family members and loved ones in order to put family units back together, but I never realized that there were African American "plantation" slaveowners in the United States. Was it bigoted of me to assume that all of the plantation owners were white? I wonder if any of the African American plantation slaveowners were merciless? Or were they all "good." [Please note that this in no way diminishes the impact of the cruelty that the average African American experienced during this period by whites.]

Here is another interesting discussion regarding the common practice of slavery in Africa back then and now. Please note that the pictures associated with Slavery in North America are disturbing. Again, for some reason I "presumed" that modern slavery was an invention of the European colonialists. I guess this sounds naive or stupid now.

All of this is basically new to me and it is hard to know where to draw the lines of good and bad; or even if such lines should be drawn. Please see this site for a discussion of the current status of slavery in parts of the world. There is still slavery today!
