PERCENT WHO SPEAK SPANISH AT HOME

Almost 30 percent in California. Wow!

Not sure why the percentages still surprise me. You would think this would be old news by now.

But then again we did have 40,000 kids (see link below for backgrounds) that were not able to pass CA's high school exit exam this year (after they were given 6 tries). Numbers were discussed before and were generally tied to household incomes.

If you look at the '05-'06 10th grade results, Latinos are passing at 66 & 65% for English and math, while African Americans are passing at 66 & 57%. The numbers for English learners are 38 & 48%.

I think these numbers speak directly to the issues I recently raised.
