Once the appropriate status is obtained, illegals with children will be entitled to a tax refund of between $2,200 and $4,400; depending on the number of household children and income. The Senate estimates that this will create an additional governmental expense of around $33 billion dollars per year.
As a point of comparison, the actual expenditures for the Department of Education in 2005 were just under $73 billion. The expenditures for the Department of Homeland Security in 2005 were about $39 billion.
For a copy of the amendments, see Senate. The legislation is really a piece of "junk." I hope that the House will be able to implement the necessary changes. Unfortunately, it is clear that the States with industries (such as beef, chicken, and commercial farming) that heavily rely on illegals employ very able lobbyists.
I am interested in knowing the nature of the meetings such lobbyists have with Senators, the number of meetings, etc. Looks like more research . . .
